My Review
Annabel is the prequel to the entire Delirium series and follows a few of the moments in the life of Lena's mother. Written in the same style as Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) with the then and now alternating chapters. The 'Then' chapters about Annabel's life after the cure has become a mandatory requirement and how she had come to meet Conrad, Lena's father. The 'now' chapters are about her time spend in the crypts, prisoner because of the love that she felt for her family and her hopes of one day escaping.
Young Annabel seemed to be a quiet girl. Someone that was willing to take a risk and get a fake procedure scar so she wouldn't actually have to get the cure and would be free to feel her emotions. If she never would have took that chance she might not have met Conrad.
Older Annabel has been in the hell for eleven years and somehow has managed to keep her spirit unbroken. Slowly, over the past eleven years she has been planning to escape the horror of life inside the crypt. But when the time finally came Annabel's not sure if she's ready.
I'm glad that I read this novella. I have wonder about Lena's mother and what her sad story was. You could feel the sorrow in Annabel's words. Being punished for loving your family is unimaginable. Any mother that has held their baby in their arms would understand just how I feel.
I give this a 4 out of 5 stars.
