My Review (contains a spoiler from the last book)
Shades of Earth picks up right where A Million Sons ends and we once again find Elder and Amy, along with 1,400 of Godspeeds inhabitants, strapped down and ready to say goodbye to the only home they ever knew and embrace a new one. Finally after 500 years in a cyro chamber Amy has reached centuri Earth but its not quite the happily ever after she was hoping for. There are huge pterodactyl like birds that won't think twice about having you for lunch, people from their crew are disappearing and turning up dead. Then they find some mysterious ruins and discovered that the people from Godspeed weren't the first to try and colonize the planet.
Once again I will praise how much I loved this trilogy. The writing was exceptional, I was constantly on edge wanting to know what was going to happen next. As with the other books, the chapters alternated between Amy and Elder which adds so much more depth to the story and almost feels like your getting two stories in one.
Amy is absolutely a determined girl and will stop at nothing to achieve her goal at living a happy life on this planet. She has after all left everything she knew behind and traveled trillions of miles to be there. Elder is also determined to prove that he has what it takes to be a good leader. After the cyro chambers were shut down and the military personnel unfroze he had been placed on the back burner with the others on his crew. With Amy he unlocks the secrets the planet is hiding, does the unthinkable to insure the survival of the colony and makes sure that no one is left behind.
I gave this a 5 out of 5 stars, a wonderful end to a stellar series :-)
